O1.1. Observation - Structural Codes

These two codes are fixed in all instances of ObservationStatement  and provide the coded confirmation that this is a statement about an actual observation.

[1..1] classCode (CS){ Fixed="OBS " }

Indicates that this is an observation.

[1..1] moodCode (CS){ Fixed="EVN " }

Indicates that this is an actual event.
An instance of ObservationStatement always represents an observation or assessment that was actually made.
Other elements are used to state that something is planned, an intended goal or has been requested.
