  1. Heavy PV blood loss[b] – for 3 days
  2. LMP 8 weeks ago – sexually active
  3. Course of Penicillin 8 weeks ago for tonsillitis
  4. On Oral contraceptive pill

Findings on examination[section 3]

  1. Supra pubic and back pain
  2. Bleeding PV
  3. Normal vital signs

Clinical Course[section 4]

Pregnancy test was found to be positive[c]. A differential diagnosis of Ectopic pregnancy  or Spontaneous abortion was made. Sally was admitted to the observation ward. An ultrasound scan performed the next day confirmed a blighted ovum[d].
Sally’s PV loss settles and she is allowed home.
Her blood group was found to be B-ve and the Kleihauer Test was positive[e].
